A sense of wonder and excitement comes to mind when gazing into a coral reef. In this photo, we have a land- sea connection. With this beach garden of succulents, we have thoughts of bright sea stars, sculptural coral designs, along with seaweed and anemones fluttering, you can almost feel the waves pass over you. Each one reflects their own personal expression. They took their pots home to find just the right spot to nurture and watch it…

SANDY BEACH SPOT… Aloe arborescens thrives in sand and does not mind salt spray, if you are looking for a beachfront garden addition this may be one to choose. If you have areas where nothing seems to grow, then this might be a good call as well.  It combines well with Yucca aloifolia, Agave americana, and Pinus torreyana,  also with an ability to thrive where your typical plant choices might not. Companion plants that go well in your sandy area…

There are so many wonderful choices in container gardening and succulents are a designers dream. Obtaining several of the same or similar containers may be an investment but similar shapes and colors invariably enhance outdoor living areas. When grouping them together, a focal point is created. If you use three pots, you may choose to plant two pots with simple succulent choices, and use one pot to replant annually, to showcase a variety of color and texture in succulents. Another…

Clouds of dark gray smoke emitting from tall buildings, surrounded by a never-ending stream of cars and trucks. That’s the sort of image the average person will most likely conjure up when being asked to describe air pollution. While this image of air pollution is both truthful and threatening, many people don’t realize that it doesn’t accurately depict the worst air quality you are likely to experience on a daily basis. So, where is the worst air quality? Maybe in…
